On Government’s move to do away with Collegium
It seems that the government wants to do away with the collegium system for the appointment of judges. Nowhere in the world do judges appoint themselves. It’s unique to India only. In every developed democracy, the appointment of judges is the prerogative of the executive.
My take on WikiLeaks’ cables
WikiLeaks cables have become a subject matter of debate. Depending on which side of the fence you are, you take sides. There are shifting stands of political parties. What started as gospel truth for some, and undependable trash for the others, has now become ‘suspect’ for the first and source for scoring browny points for the later. I am confused.
On WikiLeaks’ revelation that cash was transferred during 2008 No Confidence Motion
The revelations of WikiLeaks are shocking and appalling. Instead of taking refuge behind technicalities, the government should immediately order a probe into the allegations. Further, the committee of parliament headed by K C Deo recommended criminal investigations by appropriate authority into the ‘votes for cash’ scandal; the same should also be done in this case. Pranab Mukherjee’s stand that the 15th Lok Sabha can’t be cognizant of the 14th Lok Sabha, may be technically right but is morally indefensible.
